My buddy Mozy has been going on and on
about this band Lambrini Girls. They’re British; Mozy lives in London. But, ya know, lots of things get lost in translation between England and the USA: Football, chips, biscuits, birds, boots, lifts… they speak a different language over there, so forgive me if I was a wee bit skeptical of these young lassies from across the pond.
But I love Mozy so I got myself over to Baby’s All Right for the sold out Lambrini Girls show last week… And goddamn, I was not disappointed. Not sure if you can see it on my face here but I was into it.
Lambrini Girls — Brighton’s Phoebe Lunny and Lilly Macieira — are young, loud, and fun. But more than anything, they’re a (self-proclaimed) “political band.” And you know I was thrilled to scream-sing along with the crowd to some call “A-C” and response “A-B” refrains.
With so many bands and musicians today steering clear of politics and any kind of divisive anything that may thin their fanbase, you gotta love the riot grrrl “Suck My Left One” purity of Lambrini Girls.
Sure, it’s easy to compare this band to Bikini Kill but only because you can’t fake punk. You either got it or you don’t. Bikini Kill got it. And ya know what, Mozy? Lambrini Girls got it too.
Because what is punk if not screaming your beliefs at the top of your lungs, being yourself at any cost, and telling someone to suck your left one if they don’t like it.
That’s all for today! Take care of each other', y’all.
